PZS Exhibitor: Andrew Barton of Two Plum Press

We’ll be posting short interviews each day with the many exhibitors tabling at the 2016 Zine Symposium. Come meet all of these amazing zinesters, Saturday July 9th at Ambridge Event Center here in Portland, OR. Remember, there is only 1 day of tabling at this year’s Symposium. On Sunday July 10th, you’ll find us hosting a Skillshare day at the Independent Publishing Resource Center. Keep checking in with the site for additional exhibitor interviews, workshop and panel schedules, and fun events leading up to the Symposium.

Where do you live?

In Northeast Portland.

If this is your first time tabling at Portland Zine Symposium, what excites you most about Portland and its zine community?

This is will be the 5th time I’ve tabled at PZS. I remain excited about Portland and its zine community, because it was welcoming when I first started, and has remained a supportive place and group!

Share with us an image of you creating and/or your creative space. What is your zine-making process?
This is me (Andrew) and Lexi, Two Plum Press’s recent apprentice, folding covers for the upcoming book Pop at the IPRC.
I edit and design the books at home, then print the covers with hand-set letterpress type at the IPRC. Help comes from the authors, Lexi, and my partner Sofie.

How do you keep inspired?

I just constantly work on projects, which each tapping into different aspects of my overall, wide-spanning interests. As a result, I’m pretty much always excited to be working on whatever I’m working on!

If you could give your 16th year old teen self a zine, which one would it be?
Burn Collector by Al Burian. I got it when I was 21, and that was close enough.

What are you working on for this year’s Portland Zine Symposium? Share with us some photos of your new work!

Pictured: a new travelogue, about the classic American cross country road trip, will be making its first appearance at ‘zine symposium this year.
