PZS Exhibitor: Eli Tripoli (of Capitol Hill Comics)

We’ll be posting short interviews each day with the many exhibitors tabling at the 2016 Zine Symposium. Come meet all of these amazing zinesters, Saturday July 9th at Ambridge Event Center here in Portland, OR. Remember, there is only 1 day of tabling at this year’s Symposium. On Sunday July 10th, you’ll find us hosting a Skillshare day at the Independent Publishing Resource Center. Keep checking in with the site for additional exhibitor interviews, workshop and panel schedules, and fun events leading up to the Symposium.

Where do you live?

I live in Seattle Washington

Share with us an image of you creating and/or your creative space. What is your zine-making process?

This is where I do most of my physical drawing. I have a computer desk opposite of this one to do touch-ups and digital stuff.
I draw in blue-pencil and ink with copic pens for most projects. Lately I’ve been using Ballpoint pens and Brush pens for a new style.
I draw all the pages physically then scan them into the computer to even out the whites and blacks. I then compile them into a pdf in Photoshop and print them out.

How do you keep inspired?

I try to read and watch stuff all the time! I like to also listen to new music constantly while I work, I love music and want to incorporate it into everything I do.

If you could give your 16th year old teen self a zine, which one would it be?

Learning Good Consent. I wish I had this one when I was younger as I didn’t understand these things like I do now. I wish I could have understood a lot of the terms and the experiences people express in this zine earlier.

What are you working on for this year’s Portland Zine Symposium? Share with us some photos of your new work!

I’m putting together a new art book called Aether for the Zine Symposium, a collection of ballpoint pen/brushpen sketches I’ve done to prepare for my next comic.
